Samantha's Story
Samantha was just two weeks shy of her third birthday when she was diagnosed with IMHA - Immune mediated hemolytic anemia. It is not an easy disease to fight from a treatment or financial perspective. After two long weeks, several heart-clenching moments and an aggressive therapy treatment called TPE (therapeutic plasma exchange), Samantha was able to return home. In the months that followed, it has been frequent blood checks while slowly weaning her off all the immunosuppressants to avoid a relapse.
Samantha's quality of life couldn't be better - besides actively trying to avoid getting her medicine. Prednisone was the worst of the treatment which made her quite pudgy and dulled her personality. Once she was done with it, she returned to her normal weight and started playing with her sister again. Samantha is not completely off medication, much to her displeasure. A small sacrifice to keep her healthy.
Thankfully she was able to receive the treatment that ultimately saved her life.
